Five Reasons to be Energy Efficient

In this text, we present five main reasons why it is worth to be energy efficient.

Energy efficiency implies a series of measures we take, with the aim of reducing energy consumption which does not undermine the demands of work and living. There are numerous benefits of energy-efficient behavior, and a smart energy use is the responsibility of all people to ensure a sufficient energy for the future generation. In continuation, we present five main reasons why it is worth to be energy efficient.

Energijska efikasnost

1. Energy efficiency saves money

The average household in Bosnia and Herzegovina spends 892 BAM per year for electricity. Household appliances are among the largest households in the household, of which, only a refrigerator consumes about 25 percent of electricity. By purchasing energy-efficient appliances, the amount of energy will be reduced, which will result in lower costs. According to estimates, class A +++ household appliances consumes up to 60 percent less electricity than the household appliances same energy class D.

2. Energy efficiency improves the economy

While energy efficient behavior contributes to the reduction of energy consumption in the home, also has a great contribution and helps Governments at all levels. Bh. experts say that potential for savings in the public sector, i.e. the budget in FBiH amount about 40 million BAM per year, while the total investment potential is 400 – 500 million BAM. In addition, the implementation of energy-efficient projects through the renovation of public sector buildings opens new jobs.

3. Energy efficiency is good for the environment

When we use less power, we preserve precious natural resources. Today it is important, more than ever, to be ecologically aware and to take care of nature, as evidenced by the many climate change. The impact that people have on the environment today will have a major impact on future generations.

4. Energy efficiency reduces air pollution

One of the serious problems of today’s lifestyle represents a high level of air pollution, the main cause is the increased emission of harmful particles. Therefor, extremely high air pollution is caused during the winter.

5. Energy efficiency improves the quality of life

You may not be able to see it, but you can surely feel how energy efficiency improves the quality of life. How? One example is the heat insulation of your home which reduces energy loss during the winter period, and protects the house from excessive heat and warming in the summer. This is the energy efficiency that makes sojourn in your home more enjoyable.

BEEP – 40 Million BAM of Potential Savings in the Federation of BiH

A roundtable on “Sustainable Energy Efficiency Financing Models in FBiH” was held in Sarajevo, organized by the Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project and the Ministry of Physical Planning of the FBiH.

A roundtable on “Sustainable Energy Efficiency Financing Models in FBiH” was held in Sarajevo, organized by the Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project and the Ministry of Physical Planning of the FBiH.

From 2016, the World Bank project “Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project” implemented in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, within which 29 public facilities have been renovated so far, while the plan for this year is new 15 facilities. The total investment in the works is 13 million BAM, while the overall estimate of savings for these facilities amounts to 1.6 million BAM per year. During the three years of the project, many benefits through energy savings, raising comfort and quality of sojourn, reducing CO2 emissions, and new jobs creation, have also been achieved, for more than 220,000 users, which speaks more than enough about the importance of energy efficiency for BiH society.

In addition to the successful implementation of the project through the renovation of public facilities, the goal of the project is to represent the benefits of energy efficiency, but also to support the development of sustainable models for financing energy efficiency projects. In this connection, a roundtable on topic was held in Sarajevo “Sustainable Energy Efficiency Financing Models in FBiH“, organized by the “Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project” and the Ministry of Physical Planning of the FBiH.

For a while, local and international consultants, are working on the preparation of a study on “Sustainable Model of Financing EE in the FBiH“. The round table which was attended by the most important partners, the relevant cantonal and federal ministries, Environmental Fund of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, consultants, and private sector representatives, were able to present knowledge and potential financing models, was an opportunity to present the findings and potential models of financing.

Proposal and assessment of opportunities based on international experiences, with the aim of determining the applicability and benefits of potential sustainable models of EE projects in the public sector in FBiH, presented Dilip Limaye, an international consultant in charge of this activity in FBiH, while Jas Singh, the leading energy efficiency specialist presented international experiences, and pointed out that states in the region increasingly recognize the importance of public EE projects where energy cost savings are used to repay the investment.

The implementation of energy efficiency measures saves the money of end users that these funds can later utilize for other purposes. With activities on the renovation of public facilities in FBiH, it is very important that through this project we implement the mechanism of a sustainable financing system, from savings generated by the effects of energy efficiency” – said Mustafa Čopelj, “Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project” Team Leader for the FBiH, and added that potential for savings in the public sector i.e. the budget in Cantons and FBiH are about 40 million annually, while the total investment potential is 400 – 500 million BAM.

The Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project implementation unit will present these models to the Project Steering Board and then to the Government of the Federation, after which a sustainable model will be selected which the consultants will develop to the details necessary for implementation.

The average CO2 level over the past five years is higher than it has been recorded in the last 420 thousand years

Developing environmental consciousness is the easiest in concrete examples. Did you know that the standard storage temperature of frozen food is -18 degrees, and if you set the temperature by 1 degree below, you can increase energy consumption by up to 5 percent?

Planet Earth becomes small because the number of inhabitants is increasing every day. It would not be a problem that natural resources are not limited, and people are still unaware of the nature power and everything that offers but therefore threatens.

We are used to take from nature more than we need, and often instead of thanking, we are abusing her fortunes, polluting water, air and soil. Of course, not all people are the same so even the awareness of individuals about the importance of nature conservation is not the same.

The average Earth’s surface temperature has increased by 0.9 ° C for the last hundred years and the rate of temperature increase has almost doubled in the last 50 years. Also, due to ice melting, the sea level has increased by 17 cm. On the other hand, the average level of CO2 over the past five years, is higher than it has ever been recorded in the last 420 thousand years.

Buducnost planete Zemlje ukoliko je ne zastitimo od samih sebe

Developing environmental consciousness is the easiest in concrete examples. Did you know that the standard storage temperature of frozen food is -18 degrees, and if you set the temperature by 1 degree below, you can increase energy consumption by up to 5 percent? Note that! This is just one little trick how you can be energy efficient.

Every day, people are increasingly faced with the consequences of long-term efforts to enrich the environment and adapt to their needs. A man changes the composition of the atmosphere daily by combusting fossil fuels, deforestation, agricultural activities and other activities. However, it is still possible to prevent the consequences to ensure sustainable development” – warned experts from the Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project.

The planet we lived on does not have unlimited resources, and it we need it in every aspect of our lives. Sustainable energy efficiency is an opportunity to direct all energy users on the application of energy-efficient measures to create positive habits when it comes to rational use of energy. Every contribution is important and all together lead towards the same goal – clean planet Earth for our children.
