Before training, prepared written material is divided for easier tracking of the foreseen topics, to all participants, so that they can get acquainted with the content of the training, and had the opportunity to actively participate in training through planned tasks development.

Training topics for Energy Managers at public facilities were:

  1. Local government energy management
  2. Energy Efficiency Measures in the Construction Sector implementation
  3. Implemented measures and their effects analysis (with reference to actual examples)
  4. Renewable Energy Sources in Buildings
  5. KGH systems management
  • Types of fuel
  • Setting the load to the outside temperature
  • Using regulation (In the boiler and on the heating elements)
  • Boiler and monitoring equipment servicing
  • Controlling the conditions of the premises after the application of energy efficiency measures
  1. Field visit facilities where they implemented measures EE

Training topics for Energy Managers at the Canton / Canton level was:

  1. Energy management in local government
  2. Legislation (Legal Framework) in energy efficiency field in F B&H buildings
  3. Implemented measures and their effects analysis (qualitative and quantitative)
  4. Advanced local energy planning
  5. Innovative models of financing and contracting energy efficiency projects
  6. Local Action Plans for Sustainable Energy

At the end of training, the groups are done work assignments from SEAP theme, with focus on the energy balance and energy efficiency analysis. All training participants demonstrated a satisfactory knowledge in this subject area, through texts prepared as part of checking the acquired knowledge.

What we need to highlight is the data that the response of all invited to training was 100 percent, and that the participants expressed great interest in the two-day training, so as showed and presented positive effects in the objects they come from, after EE measures implementation. Also, we are pleased that they showed and expressed awareness of the importance of this issue.

Participants also presented problems related to the contracting heating and energy supply services way (which is mostly outside their jurisdiction) with whom they faced. This leads to reduced interest and opportunities for potential savings in this segment.

“Green transport” for energy efficiency city

Large traffic congestion, an increase in greenhouse gas emissions are endangering clean environment and health of citizens.

New research of United nations has shown that the world’s population migrates from rural to urban areas.  Data show that by the year 2030.  in urban centers worldwide will live 5 billions of people.  But in process of economic development modern cities are faced with several challenges.  Urbanization of the 21st century leads to massive expansion of infrastructures and huge energy consumption.  Right now big cities consume two thirds of world’s energy and they are responsible for 70 % of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Large traffic congestion, an increase in greenhouse gas emissions are endangering clean environment and health of citizens.  The use of private motor vehicles is constantly growing, especially in developing countries.  Increasing the number of used vehicles that can be purchased at low prices, an increase the distance which the individual must pass to get to work, such as inadequate public transport system, are the biggest factors that contribute to congestion of city traffic.  Efforts to solve problems of increasing demand for transport have tendency to focus more on expanding capacity of roads and public transport, but in the long run only the number of vehicles on the roads are increasing, which ultimately means heavier traffic and higher concentration of CO2 in the air.

Experts on the biggest project of energy efficiency in Bosnia and Herzegovina BEEP (Bosnia Energy Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project) are warning to those mentioned problems of urban centers, but also suggesting solutions in a form of implementation steps that will allow healthier environment and energy efficiency city. Such cities require reversal in proper use of their surface and quality transport planning.  Listed problems can be handled by implementing measures such as improving public transport, promotion use of bicycles or walking, as well as developing the infrastructure of the city which minimize the use of vehicles.

Activities that could be applied by city government would be primary focused on reducing the use of vehicles.  It is needed to discourage owners of vehicles from their use with measures such as:  ban driveway by car in certain parts of the city, increasing the price of parking downtown, labeling certain parts of town as «zone for pedestrians » etc. There are also necessary investments in the regulation of public transport, as well as in the quality infrastructure of hiking and biking areas. Additional activities would be launched with the aim of reducing the negative effects of an exhale gases from cars, directing to potentiation on use of electric cars or the use of better quality fuels. In the process of applying measures of energy efficiency in developing cities, also include measures of adequate planning the construction parts of the city which would possess all needed to live within one settlement, from the facilities for housing and shopping, through the educational and medical institutions.

Combination of great developed public transport and a series of deployments to regulate traffic helped Singapore to become one of the most effective energy cities in the world. Singapore has a comprehensive approach to urban transport planning which includes strong restrictions related to the ownership and use of cars. The city has developed system of public transport stations which are available on every step of the way, as well as the taxi services which offer transportation at very cheap prices.

Biggest Energy Efficiency Project BEEP Presented at Third Energy Summit in Neum

Last year results of largest energy efficiency project in Bosnia and Herzegovina BEEP (Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project) has been represented at Third Energy Summit in Neum.

Samit NeumIn organization of American Agency for International Development – Investment in Energy Sector (USAID EIA) and German Society for International Cooperation, Third Energy Summit was held in Neum. Summit opened number of topics, the most important amongst them was topic about country possibilities of energy, as well as its energy potential and opportunities. On that occasion, last year results of largest energy efficiency project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, BEEP, (Bosnia Energy Efficiency Project) has been represented at Summit.

BEEP project presentation showed energy efficient measures were implemented in 18 public facilities in the Federation of B&H. The reconstruction included primary schools, high schools, medical centers and clinical centers from the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Zenica-Doboj Canton and Sarajevo Canton. After the implementation of measures for the rational use of energy, the project, worth more than 10,536,715.65 BAM, will result in an estimated annual savings of 1.562.920 KM.,

Presentation also emphasized extremely positive example of BEEP Project as foreign investments towards energy efficiency in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Due to the efforts of the BEEP project, during 2016. year more comfortable and higher quality work conditions were created for teachers and pupils in 13 schools in the Federation of B&H. The reconstruction of schools allowed for more than 10,000 children to continue their education in warmer classrooms. Energy efficient measures were also successfully implemented in six health facilities in the Federation of B&H, three of which were clinical centers in Sarajevo, Tuzla and Mostar.

The goal of energy efficiency experts assembling at Third Energy Summit was to show that project such as BEEP is positive example of energy efficiency projects, which implements its activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and also points out advantages of energy efficiency in public sector facilities. Upon that occasion, the efforts of authorities representatives, who constantly carries out activities on CO2 emission reduction, has been emphasized, as well as promoting country sustainable development.
