Energy efficiency becomes a reality at the University Clinical Hospital Mostar

Mostar, December 21, 2022 – The Energy Efficiency Project for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BEEP and Additional Financing for BEEP) has been implemented since 2015, and so far, 83 public buildings have been renovated within this project, with a particular focus on health and educational facilities. Institutions. Through the implementation of the Project, 2,150 green jobs have been created so far, and the comfort of stay has been improved for more than 563,000 users. By carrying out the project above activities, a reduction of CO2 emissions of almost 9,000 tons per year is expected, while the anticipated annual energy savings amount to nearly 31,716 MWh.
In Mostar, four facilities where energy efficiency measures were implemented were officially opened with a symbolic ceremony:
– Clinic for physical medicine and rehabilitation;
– Clinic for infectious diseases;
– Management of the University Clinical Hospital Mostar
– Clinic for internal diseases with dialysis center.
The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Government invested more than 1.9 million KM in renovating these four buildings, and world standards carried out the works in energy efficiency.
“I am happy that we are continuing with the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Project for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the renovation of public facilities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The implementation of energy efficiency measures is significant in many ways. Primarily, we improve working and living conditions for all users of renovated buildings. The fact that medical workers will certainly have better working conditions is significant in itself. In addition, we achieve significant savings in energy costs. Research shows that investing one euro in energy efficiency in a short period brings a return of 4 to 5 euros, enabling a quick investment return. Finally, we also reduce air pollution, which is important for the health of society as a whole,” said Josip Marić, Federal Minister of Spatial Planning, on this occasion.

The implementation of energy efficiency measures on these buildings included: thermal insulation of facade walls, replacement of facade openings, thermal insulation of ceilings and roofs, including reconstruction of pitched and flat roofs, replacement of asbestos-cement covering with a new one made of profiled sheet metal, partial replacement of lighting fixtures, improvement of the central heating system, replacement boilers and energy sources, installation of thermostatic valves, installation of equipment for measuring energy consumption and monitoring temperature and humidity.
After implementing energy efficiency measures for these facilities, the expected savings on energy costs amount to more than 285,000 KM per year. At the same time, the expected cumulative annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is 387 tons of CO2.
In addition to Minister Martić, the ceremonial opening of energy-renovated clinics was attended by Nevenko Herceg, President of the Government of Herzegovina-Neretva County, and Ante Kvesić, Director of SKB Mostar.

BEEP is the largest energy efficiency project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, implemented with World Bank loans. The project will be implemented from 2015 to 2024 to present the advantages and sustainability of energy efficiency. It is estimated that about 563,000 users of facilities in the public sector will have multiple benefits from the increase in energy efficiency. Also, this project supports BiH in fulfilling its obligations from the Energy Community Agreement, by which it undertook to implement the EU directive in the field of energy efficiency.

RENOVATION OF TWO KCUS CLINICS, WORLD BANK INVESTED MORE THAN THREE MILLION MARKS
SARAJEVO (December 16, 2022) – The World Bank delegation visited the Clinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Clinic for Emergency Medicine of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, where energy efficiency measures have been implemented. These activities are part of the “Energy Efficiency of BiH” (BEEP) project, which is implemented by the Federal Ministry of Spatial Planning and financed by a World Bank loan.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina recognized the importance of energy efficiency, and to achieve economic sustainability, approached additional financing for the project “Energy Efficiency for BiH” (AF BEEP) from World Bank loans. AF BEEP is a project of exceptional importance in joining BiH to the European Union. Aware of the state of public buildings and that buildings are the largest individual consumers of energy and, therefore, major polluters of the environment, we started the BEEP project, which has so far included 14 public buildings in Sarajevo Canton, including three health institutions, one police academy, a prison, an administrative institution, and eight educational institutions. We continued with the renovation thanks to the AF BEEP project, within which three more health institutions and one police academy were renovated in this canton,” said Josip Martić, FBiH Minister of Spatial Planning.
More than 3.1 million KM was invested in renovating the Clinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Clinic for Emergency Medicine at KCUS. It is estimated that CO2 emissions will be reduced by 362 tons annually, and the expected energy savings would be around 1,800 MWh/year.
The works were carried out following world standards in energy efficiency. They included various measures, from the thermal insulation of the facade walls, the ceiling towards the unheated attic, and the floor above the unheated basement to the replacement of existing carpentry and locksmithing, the installation of dynamic thermostatic valves, calorimeters, temperature sensors, and humidity, and a remote data reading system was established.
Investments in energy efficiency will reduce energy consumption in selected public sector facilities and demonstrate the economic viability of energy efficiency improvements, including reductions in current energy costs and related public expenditures.
The implementation of energy efficiency measures in public buildings began in 2015. The Project focuses primarily on buildings of high social importance, such as educational and health institutions and other general-purpose buildings. By the end of 2020, 25,088,140.12 KM (including VAT) was invested in the renovation of 55 facilities of health, educational and other institutions. The estimated annual savings amount to 3,044,353 KM (including VAT), and the reduction of CO2 emissions in the amount of 4,565 tons per year is expected.
The results achieved through the projects of the World Bank for energy efficiency in BiH (BEEP and Additional Financing for BEEP) are the best example of good synergy between the ministry, the project team, and the financiers because through an investment of 43 million KM, 83 public buildings have been renovated so far (a total area greater than 260,000 m2), and the comfort of stay was improved for more than 476,500 users. By implementing activities within the BEEP and AF BEEP projects, CO2 emissions are expected to decrease by almost 9,000 tons annually, while annual energy savings amount to 31,716 MWh.
